Invest in your children....

The educationists has rightly pointed out that, early childhood is a crucial stage of life in terms of a child’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. Growth of mental and physical abilities progress at an astounding rate and a very high proportion of learning take place from birth to age six. With this in mind, babies and toddlers need positive early learning experiences to help their intellectual, social and emotional development and this lays the foundation for later school success.
This social dimensional growth was found when the small children of the three ECCD centres of Jigme, Singye and Wangchuk villages reciprocated what they have learned during the special award ceremony held today. The three ECCD centres of Jigme, Singye and Wangchuk villages have immensely benefited the small children of these three Lhops’ community. It really helped the children in developing their psycho-motor skills which prepare them for the later schooling. Thanks to Tarayana foundation and government for providing such facilities to nurture our innocent children. Thanks also goes to three caregivers for putting your heart and soul to mold somebody’s heir. We salute you.
Invest in our child – they are our future and the future of our nation!

Autumn shower – The heavy rain once again

The incessant rainfall for more than 48 hours has reminded us of the incredible rainfall that our country experienced this midsummer. The nation was in the brim of forgetting all the unbearable experiences gained by the Bhutanese. But this late continuous and heavy shower, swollen river bed has taken us back to the summer monsoon that we have experienced this year. The bountiful of properties were lost, many infrastructures were damaged and our pristine natural vegetation loss it virginity. Many places were disconnected with other parts of the Bhutan with rest due to the road cut off at many places. Sarpang town has lost its natural and man-made form due to the hungry swollen Sarpang river. Thimphu, the capital city was disconnected at Taktikoti from the southern region and at Zhemgang from the eastern Bhutan. Due to this, the transportation of fuel from the India has been kept in held. It has instigated fuel price hike in the capital. Such devastating damage has been caused by this summer which leads to the great loss to the country’s economy. It has also inflicted the phobia of monsoon in every Bhutanese soul. This year’s summer has disturbed the harmony and serenity of our community.
As per the Bhutanese legendary believe, the summer does end with thruebab celebration. This year it has extended to the mid of October which is almost a month after blessed rainy day celebration. This vividly shows that natural calamities have been altered due to the never-ending human activities against nature. The autumn shower comes to many as surprise pouring when everybody is preparing for winter chillness. In the western Bhutan, the farmers were preparing for autumn harvest of rice. This shower has drenched to the futile harvest. It re-wounded the unbearable scar marked on the natural vegetation, national properties and life of the human being by the midsummer devastating monsoon fall. This year summer rainfall was once again the nightmare for the individual Bhutanese. All the river bed has regained its monstrous height, streams and springs have rejuvenated the summer deeps and the all trees have once again tested its rigidity and strength with the late strong windy plight. Once again all the school going students are drenched with the unbearable heavy rainfall. It is the unexpected pouring.
Such natural devastating call comes to human with great surprise. But it happens to avenge the human’s cruelty to nature and its natural existence. Air pollution, natural landscape alteration, water defecation because of man’s undying lust and desire was the main cause of unseasonable weather changes. The humankind needed to be prepared to combat the natural avenges.
The summer heavy rainfall and unexpected heavy autumn shower reminded us in many ways to be prepared and expect the unexpected natural calls. This has many in its own bag to let us stitch on time and save nine to move extra mile to get acquainted with successive summer to arrive in the future.

Blessed Rainy Day Celebration

Blessed rainy day is an annual merriment which marks the end of the monsoon season in Bhutan. It is usually marked at 22nd day of the 7th lunar month. It is known as thrue-bab in Dzongkha. The word has two characters: thrue mean “ambrosia or elixir” and bab mean “falling”.  On this day, nation goes for bathing or can be called as ‘nation bathing’. It is believed that on this date all natural water sources on the earth are considered to be sanctified by the falling of dhueetsi (ambrosia) from the heaven.  There is a religious explanation on how such elixir poured from the heavenly abbot. For a week, all the Bhutanese take an outdoor bathing since the fallen dhueetsi cleansed all bad deed, obstructions, defilement and nullify all bad karma accumulated for the year. Some even keep the bowl or bucket with flower outside in the open space believing that the dhueetsi will fall in the water and used to take bath which help in cleansing the bad deeds.

The celebration of Thrue depicts the celebration of tradition and culture that has been passed to us through generation. It also show the how intact the age-old tradition are with the Bhutanese which make us unique sovereign nation. As per the legendary stories behind the origination of blessed rainy shared by our astrologer it has great meaning and rationale of its existence.
Legend has it that billions of years ago there existed a Buddha called Dipenkara (Sangay Marmazey). One day he passed away. Later, his statue was newly constructed in an ocean (most probably in the Indian Ocean) by the King of the Nagas (Luu Gyelpo Tsugna Rinchen) as a symbol of worship.
As soon as the construction was completed a rain of ambrosia (Dhueetsi) fell upon the statue from the Reekhee Star (Karma Reekhee) twinkling in heaven as an offering of the King of Devas (Lhai Gyelp tshangpa and Jajin). The ambrosia had had all curing medical values.
Thus all the worldly elements and compounds are believed to have got their medical properties form the legendary star. Today, the Blessed rainy day is a commemoration of that great ancient rain which is believed to reoccur and cleanse the world annually.
The most auspicious hour for the ablution is determined by astrologers in the service of the Je khenpo, the chief abbot of Bhutan, as per the Bhutanese lunar calendar.
In the traditional Bhutanese family, the celebration of thrue starts with purification bathing (mostly early in the morning). Then, family members gather in the traditional way to have thup (Bhutanese porridge) as to mark the feasting followed by the Suja (butter tea), Dzaw (roasted rice), khabjey (snacks), rice and varieties of curries. Once the family members are done their morning feasting, men set out for different traditional sports like archery, khuru or degor

And all women visit their neighbors or relatives to enjoy the day. Many greeting of best wishes are send to the families and their friends.

While the men play their games, the house ladies prepare the lunch for the family members and they do picnicking at the play spot and have great gathering for the lunch.
Finally, day ends with family gathering with wine and dines at the house or some goes out for the good restaurant or bar to make the day more enjoyable and memorable.
This is in nutshell how the thrue-bab is celebrated in the traditional Bhutanese family. In reality, the celebration is found more grand, enjoyable and memorable than how we feel. This celebration also signifies the end of the farming season and the beginning of the harvest season in most of the parts of Bhutan.
Happy Blessed Rainy!!!

A child who read more performs better in all facets of formal educations than those who don’t.

The Bhutanese artifacts
Model of Dzong
The departmental exhibition was held on the 5th day of the literary week. The exhibition is a great platform for the students to exhibit what they have learned and what they are good at, as well. It was found essential for the schools to organize exhibitions during the literary festival as it gives some chance for students in showcasing their talents. In an exhibition, students get a chance to apply or do the practical aspect of the things that they have learned in the classroom. The exhibition acts as a real opportunity for the students to implement the things that they have learned from schools. It is not enough for the students to learn the lessons from the textbooks, but they should be given adequate space and time for letting the inner talents get a platform to be showcased. The departmental exhibition is one avenue where they showcase their inner talents. With the above importance, the exhibition was organized among five different subject departments.
The teachers and the students have done the marvelous job to come up with the best presentation of the exhibition show piece. The different models, facts and figures, scientific experiments, history, games and puzzle were the parts of exhibition.
